Our Dubai Roastery
At the heart of 1718 Coffee is our Dubai roastery — the place where green coffee from around the world is transformed into the exceptional specialty coffee you know us for. Every roast begins with intention and ends with quality, scored and approved before it leaves our facility.
The Roasting Process
Specialty coffee roasting is both a science and an art. We develop individual roast profiles for each origin and lot, designed to highlight the natural characteristics of the bean rather than mask them. A Kenyan washed coffee is roasted differently from a Brazilian natural or an Ethiopian Sidamo — because they are fundamentally different coffees that deserve their own expression.
Our roast profiles are calibrated to the specific moisture content, density, and green quality of each lot. We use data-driven profiling tools alongside sensory evaluation to ensure every batch meets our exacting standards.
Quality Control
Every coffee we sell is cupped and scored by founder Mohamed Hamdou at our Dubai facility. We use the Specialty Coffee Association (SCA) cupping protocol to evaluate aroma, flavour, aftertaste, acidity, body, balance, sweetness, and overall quality. Only coffees that meet our minimum standards reach our customers.
Small-Batch Freshness
We roast in small batches to ensure maximum freshness. Coffee is best consumed within 6–8 weeks of roasting, and we structure our production schedule to ensure the coffee reaching you is as fresh as possible. We publish roast dates on all our products so you always know when your coffee was roasted.
Locally Roasted, Globally Sourced
Roasting in Dubai allows us to significantly reduce transportation time and emissions for our regional customers in the UAE. The coffees we source from Ethiopia, Colombia, Brazil, Kenya, and beyond arrive as green beans and are transformed here — in Dubai — into the specialty coffee we are proud to serve.
